What is Kilim History?

  • Kilim is a flat woven carpet or a kind of rug without any pile or knotted fluff: a coarse, thin hand-made carpet.
  • This rug has different names in different countries. For instance in Afghanistan and Egypt, it is called “Kilim”, In Syria and Lebanon it is called “Chilim” and in Iran “Gelim”.
  • The kilim has Persian roots, it is originated in the Anatolia area of Turkey. Situated between the Black and Mediterranean seas, Anatolia is often thought of as one of the great crossroads between ancient civilizations.

Care:

Wet Clean:

  • Sweep both sides of the rug to remove loose debris.
  • Mix carpet shampoo with warm water.
  • Dip a brush in the solution and apply it gently in vertical strokes and then with horizontal strokes.
  • Repeat the process on the other side of the Kilim.
  • Rinse the rug with clean warm water by using a clean brush.
  • Leave the Kilim to dry.

Dry Clean:

  • By using Vacuum.
  • Use low suction (The minimum suction).
  • Vacuum both sides of the rug.
  • Avoid vacuuming the fringe.
